What is Real Grade?

Real Grade is a line of Gunpla kits by Bandai introduced in 2010 as part of the Gundam 30th Anniversary commemoration project. The RG line combines one of the best aspects of the other three Gunpla lines: The small size and affordable price of the High Grade, the advanced inner frame technology of the Master Grade, and the massive parts count and details of the Perfect Grade. The RG line reflects what a mobile suit would look like if it were built in present day. Real Grade, excitement embodied.

RG 1/144 #07 RX-178 GUNDAM MK-II (Titans)

1/144 Real Grade version of the popular Gundam MK II from Zeta Gundam. Featuring the advanced MS Joint for ultimate range of motion and mechanical detail, this realistic version of the RX-178 contains exchangeable hands for holding different weaponry, and the ability to be put in iconic action poses. Special marking stickers are provided to simulate realistic placement of maintenance hatches and ports. The dark blue colored Titans version also comes with additional option parts to recreate the MK II Test Type. Panel lines designed to show separation of metal panels on the "real" machine. Beam saber x2, beam rifle x1, shield x1, bazooka x1.

The articulation on this kit is genuinely impressive—I was able to nail the series' signature crouched firing pose without any parts popping off. Build time took a solid evening, but the inner frame detail makes it feel far more premium than the price suggests.

Panel lining was a bit tedious on those tiny RG parts, but the articulation gimmicks are fantastic for getting that iconic Titans pose without any visible seams. The inner frame detail really sells the "Real Grade" feel for this scale.

The frame holds poses well once assembled, but the inner structure is so fiddly that a few joints popped off while I was bending the arms for the first time. The articulation is there, yet it feels more like a display piece than something I’d want to handle repeatedly.
